• The Radeon RX 7900 XT was an enthusiast-class graphics card by AMD, launched on November 3rd, 2022. Built on the 5 nm process, and based on the Navi 31 graphics processor, in its Navi 31 XT variant, the card supports DirectX 12 Ultimate. This ensures that all modern games will run on Radeon RX 7900 XT. Additionally, the DirectX 12 Ultimate capability guarantees support for hardware-raytracing, variable-rate shading and more, in upcoming video games. The Navi 31 graphics processor is a large chip with a die area of 529 mm² and 57,700 million transistors. Unlike the fully unlocked Radeon RX 7900 XTX, which uses the same GPU but has all 6144 shaders enabled, AMD has disabled some shading units on the Radeon RX 7900 XT to reach the product's target shader count. It features 5376 shading units, 336 texture mapping units, and 192 ROPs. Also included are 168 tensor cores which help improve the speed of machine learning applications. The card also has 84 raytracing acceleration cores. AMD has paired 20 GB GDDR6 memory with the Radeon RX 7900 XT, which are connected using a 320-bit memory interface. The GPU is operating at a frequency of 1387 MHz, which can be boosted up to 2394 MHz, memory is running at 2500 MHz (20 Gbps effective).

The card's dimensions are 276 mm x 110 mm x 51 mm, and it features a dual-slot cooling solution. Its price at launch was 899 US Dollars.

As a custom version, it adds board and cooling changes over the reference design. Custom cards typically cost at or above the reference MSRP of $899 USD due to enhanced cooling and components.
  • From a hardware perspective, SAPPHIRE Radeon RX 7900 XT 20GB runs on the Navi 31 GPU built on the 5nm process. The 5nm node makes it possible to fit about 58 billion transistors on a 522 mm² die. The GPU has 5,376 Stream Processors, 336 Texture Mapping Units, and 192 Render Output Units. It includes 84 Ray Accelerators for ray tracing and Tensor Cores for AI acceleration.

  • RDNA 3 introduced a chiplet design for gaming GPUs. It combines TSMC 5 nm Graphics Compute Dies with 6 nm Memory Cache Dies linked by Infinity Fanout Bridge. The generation adds dual-issue Compute Units that can double theoretical FP32 throughput per clock. It also adds Wave Matrix Multiply-Accumulate (WMMA) instructions for AI workloads across multiple data types. Ray tracing moves to second-generation Ray Accelerators and a revised cache hierarchy. The Radiance Display Engine brings DisplayPort 2.1 and hardware AV1 encoding. AMD targets a 50% performance-per-watt gain and a second-generation Infinity Cache with better bandwidth efficiency.
